Hey guys! So today, I’m gonna share two of my poems, Partite and Ignite, and chat a bit about how they’re the antithesis of the other. Think water vs. fire, indecision vs. action— two sides of the same coin.
Poem 1: Partite – The Struggle of Indecision
This one is all about feeling split, like you’re torn in different directions and just can’t make up your mind. You know that feeling when you’re stuck, but not sure which way to go? Yeah, that’s Partite in a nutshell. The hidden 'freeze' option in the age old question of fight or flight.
Stanza 1: "Feelings like a partite, Swimming through a sea split wide, currents crashing, pulling both sides, a choice left unmade as I drift in between. Each wave whispers, 'Decide.'"
Right off the bat, I’m using water to show how torn the speaker is. They’re floating through this sea of emotions, pulled in every direction, but not actually doing anything. It’s like the waves are taunting them to make a choice, but they just... don’t.
Stanza 2: "Caught in the noise, thoughts unsaid, a quiet storm inside my head— the waters rise, a flood of dread, but still, I float, no anchor, no thread. The sky turns gray, and silence settles instead."
Now the storm inside their head is picking up too. We’ve all been there, right? Where everything feels overwhelming but at the same time, you’re kind of just... frozen. The "no anchor, no thread" line is basically saying they have no direction, no control. It’s like floating in anxiety, waiting for something to give, but all that happens is a gray, quiet kind of nothing. I call this feeling 'numb.'
Stanza 3: "Seeking the shore, but my voice won’t call, the distance stretches, shadows stand tall. Feet buried in sand, I stall, lost in the moment, a prisoner to my mind. Torn by the tide—will I rise, or will I fall?"
In the last part, (you guessed it) they’re still frozen! They want to move. They want to decide. They want to act, but they can’t. Their feet are 'stuck in the sand' and 'the shadows' are their doubts personified. And to tie it all off, the final line (the conclusion) still leaves uncertainty. “Will I rise, or will I fall?” They don’t know, and they’re not sure they ever will.
Poem 2: Ignite – Embracing Action
Now let’s talk about Ignite, which is the complete opposite. It’s all about fire—decisiveness, power, and just going for it. In Ignite, the speaker isn’t holding back; they’re charging forward, burning through everything in their way.
Stanza 1: "Flames leap where shadows once crept, no quiet whispers, no thoughts unkept. The world ignites in a single breath, heat and fury, chasing death. No drifting now, no time to stall— I stand, I burn, I take it all."
Boom! No hesitation here. The fire has fully replaced those shadows from Partite. The speaker is ready to take on the world, and they’re not waiting around for anything. There’s no drifting, no second-guessing—just straight-up action.
Stanza 2: "No choice hangs heavy in the air, I move with fire, I do not care for doubt, for fear, for lines unsaid— only forward, the blaze ahead. Each step crackles, sharp and bright, a path lit clear by furious light."
This is where the speaker fully embraces that fiery energy. They’re over all the doubt and fear that was drowning them in Partite. It’s all about moving forward and letting the flames guide them. Each step is 'sharp and bright'—no more foggy indecision.
Stanza 3: "The sky burns red, no gray in sight, I carve the future, I claim the fight. Feet planted firm on molten ground, with every crack, I rise unbound. No drifting tide, no faltering fall— I am the flame that consumes it all."
Total transformation! Like a phoenix! The gray skies of Partite are gone, replaced with a burning red sky. The speaker is fully grounded, strong, and rising up, with zero hesitation. That final line says everything: “I am the flame that consumes it all.” They’re not asking if they’ll rise—they are the force that’s unstoppable now. They are the change.
Comparing Partite and Ignite
So, do you see how these poems are two sides of the same coin? In Partite, the speaker is totally passive, just floating in the sea of their emotions, unsure of what to do. They’re overwhelmed by the currents of doubt, and the whole thing has a very introspective, almost a helpless/prisoner to the mind vibe. Then, you’ve got Ignite, which is all about fire and power. The speaker doesn’t just interact with the fire—they literally become it. It’s like they’ve taken control of their own destiny, burning through any obstacles that stands in their way. No more waiting around, no more fear. It’s all about action, strength, and forward momentum. Water vs. fire, hesitation vs. action—it’s all there.
But here’s the thing: both of these reactions are totally normal, and we all go through them at different points in life. I wrote these poems to show that you’re not just one or the other. Even if you feel "stuck," "lost," or "drowning in thoughts" right now, that doesn’t mean you’ll stay like that forever. One day, you’ll burn through all of that and become the fire itself. Trust the process—sometimes you have to float before you can blaze. ;)
Let me know what you think! Do you feel more like a Partite or ready to Ignite right now?
Either way, I'm sending peace and love out to you all.
